R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Para Lee Washington Reed was honored by the |
|
Renaissance Cultural Center of Fort Worth on February 24, 2007, in |
|
recognition of the milestone of her 90th birthday; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1917, Mrs. Reed has been a constant source of |
|
joy and inspiration to her friends and family, which today includes |
|
five children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren, and 15 |
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in |
|
Houston, she is a retired home missionary, and her efforts in behalf |
|
of her religious community are innumerable and began with her |
|
service to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Ballinger, where she |
|
attended as a youth and young adult; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Reed moved to Brownwood in 1938 and would call |
|
the city home for the next 55 years; a member of the Mt. Zion |
|
Missionary Baptist Church, she gave of her time and talents as a |
|
church clerk, Sunday school superintendent, and representative of |
|
Church Women United; she also volunteered with the Southern Baptist |
|
Brown County Association at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and shared |
|
her faith as a guest speaker at churches and organizations such as |
|
the General Women's House Party on the campus of Baylor University; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1993, Mrs. Reed moved to Grand Prairie and |
|
quickly became one of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church's most |
|
respected congregants, acting as a counselor and friend to its many |
|
members; after 10 years of residence in Grand Prairie, she moved to |
|
Fort Worth and has since blessed the Meadowbrook First Baptist |
|
Church with her presence and noted leadership skills, even going as |
|
far as to organize and facilitate a pastoral aid committee at the |
|
age of 87, which she currently serves as president and advisor; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with her church, she has |
|
benefited her new community through her involvement with the |
|
Renaissance Cultural Center of Fort Worth; as an active volunteer, |
|
she has helped to ensure the success of its health fairs and |
|
Juneteenth and Black History Month celebrations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her 90 years, Mrs. Reed has lived a |
|
faithful life of service to others and has demonstrated great |
|
caring and generosity, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize her |
|
on nine decades of life well lived; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Para Lee Washington Reed on the |
|
joyous occasion of her 90th birthday and extend to her best wishes |
|
for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Reed as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
