R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is always |
|
cause for celebration, and Nellie Deane Smith Stewart of Fort Worth |
|
marked this joyous occasion in her life on March 4, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Overton in 1917, Ms. Stewart is an honors |
|
graduate of Texas College in Tyler and an alumna of the University |
|
of North Texas, where she earned her master's degree in education; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, She taught at Versia L. Williams Elementary School |
|
for 34 years and remains active in her field today as a member of the |
|
Texas Retired Teachers Association, Fort Worth Retired School |
|
Employees, and the National Education Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Stewart is a respected resident of her community |
|
and has given graciously of her time and talents to several |
|
organizations; she has benefited her congregation of Saint Andrews |
|
United Methodist Church as a teacher, Sunday school superintendent, |
|
and chair of the education committee; in addition, she is a member |
|
of the United Methodist Women and Church Women United, a charter |
|
member of the Alpha Tau and Omicron Gamma Omega Chapters of Alpha |
|
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a past president of the Beta Mu |
|
Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Stewart is a true blessing in the lives of her |
|
friends and admirers, and it is a pleasure to recognize her on nine |
|
decades of life well lived; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Nellie Deane Smith Stewart on the |
|
milestone of her 90th birthday and extend to her best wishes for |
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|
of Representatives. |
