R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dawn Clopton has become the first female firefighter
  to be promoted to the rank of division chief in the Austin Fire
  Department; and
         WHEREAS, One of the department's longest-serving female
  members, Chief Clopton has been a ranking officer in some of the
  city's busiest fire stations, an executive member of the Austin
  Firefighters Association, and a member of the department's
  technical rescue team, as well as a spokeswoman for the department
  on several occasions; and
         WHEREAS, Her most recent promotion puts her in charge of
  special projects; she will focus on increasing diversity in the
  department, reviewing and developing policies with a view to
  attracting a wider cross-section of the community to the
  organization; and
         WHEREAS, Widely admired for her profound commitment to the
  firefighter's calling, Chief Clopton has twice received the
  department's Medal of Merit for exemplary service; in addition, she
  traveled to New York after the attacks of September 11, 2001, to
  help search for victims and also employed her expertise in New
  Orleans and the Gulf Coast region to help victims of Hurricanes
  Katrina and Rita in 2005; and
         WHEREAS, Chief Dawn Clopton has exemplified those qualities
  of dedication, initiative, and integrity that define the very best
  in public service, and her elevation to the top ranks of her
  department is both a justly deserved recognition of her outstanding
  contributions and abilities and a welcome development for the City
  of Austin; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dawn Clopton on her appointment as
  one of the Austin Fire Department's five division chiefs and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Chief Clopton as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
