R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the State Firemen's and Fire |
|
Marshals' Association of Texas are visiting the Capitol on March |
|
21, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, The oldest and largest fire service association in |
|
Texas, this notable organization was founded in 1876, and for more |
|
than 130 years its members have ably served the residents of the |
|
Lone Star State; today, the group represents more than 1,100 fire |
|
departments, 80 industrial fire brigades, and 18,000 individual |
|
members; and |
|
WHEREAS, Approximately 70 percent of the fire service of |
|
Texas is made up of volunteer firefighters who have pledged to |
|
protect the lives and property of their fellow citizens; on this |
|
day, a ceremony at the Firemen's Monument located on the Capitol |
|
grounds pays special tribute to four of these dedicated individuals |
|
who lost their lives in the line of duty; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its certification program, the association |
|
promotes training and education for its members, and it sponsors |
|
and supports the world's largest fire training school each summer |
|
at Texas A&M University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its establishment, the SFFMA has worked |
|
diligently to promote, unify, represent, and educate the fire |
|
service of Texas, and its ongoing efforts to meet the needs of its |
|
members are most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize the members of the State Firemen's and |
|
Fire Marshals' Association of Texas and honor them for their |
|
continuing work in behalf of the firefighters of the Lone Star |
|
State; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
