R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, LaNan McKinney of Austin has long benefited the Lone
  Star State through her exceptional engagement in civic endeavors
  and her performance of volunteer work; and
         WHEREAS, A prominent figure in the Friends of the Governor's
  Mansion, Mrs. McKinney has concluded a two-year term as president
  of the board, and has held other leadership roles in that
  organization, including vice president and chair of the development
  committee; she has also served on the finance and executive
  committees, and her dedicated efforts in all of these roles have
  helped maintain the historical and cultural significance of this
  important site; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. McKinney is also actively involved with the
  Docents of the Governor's Mansion, being a past president of the
  organization and a member of the board; this committed volunteer
  has herself been a docent at the mansion since 1988; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and a
  former high school teacher, Mrs. McKinney has also given freely of
  her time and talents to many noteworthy organizations, including
  the Delta Delta Delta sorority, the Austin Natural Science Guild,
  the Austin Women's Club, and the Junior Austin Women's Club;
  moreover, she has served in positions of leadership for the
  Assistance League of Austin and the Sam Houston Society; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. McKinney is fluent in Spanish and French and
  enjoys painting and the arts; in another of her volunteer efforts,
  she has taken part in a Women's Symphony League of Austin project to
  introduce schoolchildren to orchestral music; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to her volunteer work, Mrs. McKinney is
  devoted to her family, which includes her husband, Mike McKinney,
  her children, Blake, who will earn his doctor of medicine degree in
  May, and Lauren McKinney, an attorney in Austin, and her two
  grandchildren, Chad and Braden McKinney; excelling in all of her
  endeavors, LaNan McKinney is truly an asset to her community and has
  greatly contributed to the preservation and enrichment of the Lone
  Star State's cultural heritage; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend LaNan McKinney for her outstanding
  record of community service and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for continued success in her important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. McKinney as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
