R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Cora Faye Williams of West Columbia is celebrating
  her 100th birthday on April 7, 2007, and this momentous occasion
  provides an ideal opportunity to recognize her many contributions
  to her community; and
         WHEREAS, With a keen memory of decades long past, Mrs.
  Williams has proved an invaluable resource for historians in West
  Columbia and throughout the Lone Star State; she has shared stories
  told to her by her ancestors who came to Brazoria County as slaves
  and provided accounts of area sugar mills and plantations,
  including the Varner-Hogg Plantation, where she played and worked
  as a child; and
         WHEREAS, Though Mrs. Williams had little opportunity to
  attend school, her passion for learning has inspired her to read and
  study throughout her life; and
         WHEREAS, She is known for her optimism and cheerful spirit,
  and she has helped to raise hundreds of children in her community,
  many of whom affectionately call her "Mama Cora"; she has also long
  been a friend to those in need, sharing her time to comfort and
  nurture the sick; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams is a valued member of the First
  Missionary Baptist Church of West Columbia, where she helped to
  organize Homecoming programs for many years and played an integral
  role in the establishment of the Senior Citizens Center, which
  provides hot meals daily to elderly residents; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with vitality and vigor, Mrs. Williams still
  lives at home and continues to enjoy hand-stitching colorful
  quilts; and
         WHEREAS, Citizens such as Cora Faye Williams are truly the
  backbone of this great state; she is an inspiration to all who know
  her, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Cora Faye Williams on the occasion of her
  100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Williams as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
