WHEREAS, Loupot's Bookstore of College Station has served the
students of Texas A&M University and Blinn College for 75 years; and
WHEREAS, This beloved institution had its beginnings in the
dorm room of Judson E. Loupot, a sophomore at what was then Texas
Agricultural & Mechanical College; needing to support himself and
assist his family after the death of his father, he and his
roommate, Olin E. "Tiger" Teague, conceived of a business selling
and trading clothes to their fellow students; threatened with
expulsion when their operation was discovered by campus
authorities, they built a storefront in the Northgate area and were
soon selling hamburgers, chili, and used books, in addition to
clothes; after graduating in 1932, "Old Army Lou," as he became
known, turned his full attention to the thriving business; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Loupot built a reputation as a
trustworthy friend to the community with his generous habit of
helping students in need of cash, food, and other assistance, all
predicated on his wholehearted belief in an Aggie's word or
handshake; he eventually opened two additional stores, and while
they all sold clothing and a variety of Aggie paraphernalia, they
were best known for supplying new and used textbooks; today, all
three Loupot's stores carry on the tradition of "Aggies helping
Aggies," which defined the business for more than 60 years under the
leadership of Old Army Lou, who passed away in 1995, by contributing
to student and community organizations and supporting several
  scholarships; and
WHEREAS, Owned and operated in part by his daughter, Ann
Loupot Daughety, Loupot's Bookstores are an integral part of the
college experience for countless Texas A&M and Blinn College
students; although Judson Loupot is no longer at their helm, his
legacy of friendly and reliable service continues to distinguish
them as outstanding places of business; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Loupot's Bookstore on its 75th
anniversary and extend to Ann Loupot Daughety and all those
affiliated with the bookstore sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Loupot's Bookstore as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
