R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Baker Pattillo has been named the eighth |
|
president to lead Stephen F. Austin State University, and this |
|
notable achievement offers a fitting opportunity to reflect on the |
|
outstanding record of leadership and the wealth of experience he |
|
brings to his new post; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Arp, Baker Pattillo began his own |
|
college studies by earning an associate's degree from Tyler Junior |
|
College; he then enrolled at Stephen F. Austin State University, |
|
beginning his long association with the Nacogdoches campus; after |
|
receiving a bachelor's degree in English and history and a master's |
|
degree in education from SFA, he subsequently earned a doctoral |
|
degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University in |
|
1971; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Pattillo joined the administration of Stephen F. |
|
Austin State University in 1966 as the assistant director of |
|
placement and student financial aid; he went on to benefit the SFA |
|
community in several different capacities, becoming dean of student |
|
services, vice president for student affairs, and vice president |
|
for university affairs; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of these assignments, Dr. Pattillo focused on |
|
serving the needs of the university's students, and his superior |
|
abilities as an administrator were acknowledged with his unanimous |
|
appointment by the SFA Board of Regents to the position of interim |
|
president in July 2006; since that time, his myriad accomplishments |
|
include building an effective executive management team by drawing |
|
on the university's senior leaders, increasing faculty and staff |
|
salaries, and allocating funds to update SFA's computer resources; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Recognizing Dr. Pattillo's longstanding commitment |
|
to the improvement and success of Stephen F. Austin State |
|
University, the board of regents selected him as president in |
|
January 2007; this appointment will allow this accomplished |
|
educator to continue to bring improvements to the university and to |
|
guide the institution with the insight and sensitivity that he has |
|
developed throughout more than 40 years of service in the field of |
|
higher education; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Baker Pattillo on being named |
|
the eighth president of Stephen F. Austin State University and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for success in this vital |
|
position; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Pattillo as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
