R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Frank Edward Parker of Center died on February 12, |
|
2007, and his passing has left a void in the lives of his family |
|
members and in the community he so treasured; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Center to Fornie and Aileen Runnels Parker |
|
on October 19, 1924, F. E. Parker was an esteemed businessman and |
|
civic leader who took pride and pleasure in his efforts to benefit |
|
his hometown; and |
|
WHEREAS, A 1941 graduate of Center High School, Mr. Parker |
|
attended Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas A&M |
|
University before earning a degree from The University of Texas at |
|
Austin in 1949; he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy |
|
during World War II; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Parker was active in a number of businesses and |
|
real estate ventures, most notably as the owner of Parker Motor |
|
Company, and he sat on the boards of Guaranty Bond Bank, Farmers |
|
State Bank, and Shelby Savings Bank; he also had served as president |
|
of the Center Chamber of Commerce and Fair Association, |
|
commissioner on the Sabine River Compact Commission, member of the |
|
board of the Center Rotary Club, and member of the Center School |
|
Board; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Parker was a lifelong member of the First United |
|
Methodist Church of Center and served on the church's board of |
|
stewards for a number of years; moreover, he cofounded the Center |
|
Country Club and enjoyed membership in Sam Samford Masonic Lodge |
|
No. 149 and the Sharon Shrine Temple; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the welfare of area high school |
|
students, Mr. Parker played a key role in the creation of the |
|
Roughrider Scholarship Foundation, a fund designed to support the |
|
goals of Center students pursuing higher education; his other true |
|
passion was hunting, and he shared many fulfilling adventures, |
|
including several African safaris, with his "huntin' buddies"; and |
|
WHEREAS, F. E. Parker was a man of generosity and integrity |
|
whose strength of character and zest for life inspired those around |
|
him, and his legacy of achievement and success will not soon be |
|
forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frank Edward Parker |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife of 60 years, Doris Massey Parker; to his children and their |
|
spouses, Pam and William Harrison Wall, Patti and James Boyd |
|
Peterson, and Frank E. Parker, Jr., and Cheryl Parker; to his |
|
grandchildren, William Harrison "Tripp" Wall III and his wife, |
|
Anna, Treven Parker Wall and his wife, Alison, Claiborn Massey |
|
Peterson and his wife, Katie, Pamela Aileen Peterson, Winter |
|
Patricia Wall, Frank E. "Trey" Parker III, and Bolt Houston Parker; |
|
to his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Letitia Parker; to his |
|
great-grandchildren, Adelyn Stratton Wall, Kathrin Ann Peterson, |
|
and Peter Merriman Wall; to his beloved nieces and nephews; and to |
|
his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frank |
|
Edward Parker. |
