R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A Texan who understands the honky-tonk heart of |
|
country music and sings it sweet and true, Sunny Sweeney is |
|
celebrating the major-label release of her debut album, |
|
Heartbreaker's Hall of Fame; and |
|
WHEREAS, Raised in Longview, among the East Texas pines that |
|
she mentions in one of her rousing songs, Sunny Sweeney first heard |
|
Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and other legendary singers of |
|
traditional country music while growing up; the beautiful cry of a |
|
steel guitar and the solemn truth of a heartfelt tune became a dear |
|
part of her life, and she revealed her magnificent voice to the |
|
public by performing with her high school choir; and |
|
WHEREAS, Despite her obvious talent, Ms. Sweeney took a |
|
roundabout trip to her rightful place on the bandstand; she tried |
|
her hand at acting, comedy, and a long list of less glamorous |
|
occupations, including waitress, office worker, and dog walker, but |
|
destiny and a guitar that her stepfather gave her for Christmas put |
|
Sunny Sweeney back on the right path; since 2004, she has been |
|
delighting audiences in the clubs of Austin, and in 2006 she signed |
|
with Nashville record label Big Machine; with the company's release |
|
of Heartbreaker's Hall of Fame, it's clear that Sunny Sweeney has |
|
found her calling; and |
|
WHEREAS, Blessed with a bold and wistful voice that is |
|
steeped in the bittersweet spirit of the great barroom ballads, Ms. |
|
Sweeney takes the classic sound and spirit of country music and |
|
makes it new; whether singing sad or sassy, she has the undeniable |
|
ability to touch hearts and fill dance floors, and it is a pleasure |
|
to pay tribute to this exciting new addition to the great musical |
|
legacy of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Sunny Sweeney on the release of her |
|
album Heartbreaker's Hall of Fame and extend to her best wishes for |
|
success in all her musical endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Sweeney as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
