R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Carol W. Short has contributed countless hours and
  invaluable insight to the cultural arts community of Denton during
  the past three decades, and her efforts have earned her the Otis L.
  Fowler Award; and
         WHEREAS, Presented by the Denton Chamber of Commerce, the
  Otis L. Fowler Award honors individuals who have made a significant
  contribution to the progress and welfare of Denton; and
         WHEREAS, A truly worthy recipient, Ms. Short has shared her
  time with the Greater Denton Arts Council, serving as co-chair of
  development and helping to raise more than $1 million for the
  construction of the Center for the Visual Arts and the Campus
  Theatre; moreover, she founded the Arts Guild of Denton, the
  Auction for the Arts, and the Docent and Building Volunteer
  Programs, all of which support the mission of the council; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Short has also benefited a number of other
  worthwhile endeavors; the former president of the Texas Association
  of Nonprofit Organizations and the Southwest Theatre & Film
  Association, she has been a member of the Texas Arts Council Board
  and the Texas Nonprofit Theatres Board; and
         WHEREAS, This notable Texan is the owner and president of
  Events In Motion, Inc., and the founder, president, and executive
  director of the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival; she has received a
  number of accolades for her many contributions, including the
  Volunteer of the Year Award, the Bill Crawford Award, and the
  Distinguished Service Award from the Southwest Theatre & Film
  Association, the Community Arts Recognition Award, and recognition
  from the Denton Community Theatre; and
         WHEREAS, Carol Short's dedication and civic engagement are
  truly inspirational, and her efforts have earned her the respect
  and gratitude of her fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Carol W. Short on earning the Otis
  L. Fowler Award from the Denton Chamber of Commerce and commend her
  for her myriad contributions to the cultural arts in Denton; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Short as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
