R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Texas singer Jason "Sundance" Head has performed |
|
memorably on the popular television talent competition, American |
|
Idol; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Porter, Sundance Head is the son |
|
of R&B singer Roy Head, who had three top 40 hits in 1965 and whose |
|
hit "Treat Her Right" reached number two on the Billboard pop chart |
|
that year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Growing up in a house with a gold record hanging on |
|
the wall, Sundance Head was inspired to follow in his father's |
|
footsteps; a singer from an early age, Mr. Head also plays guitar, |
|
bass, and piano and composes songs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Head surprised and greatly impressed the judges, |
|
even Simon Cowell, by confidently performing the blues standard |
|
"Stormy Monday" at his audition in Memphis; he continued to impress |
|
the judges with what one journalist called a "smoking" rendition of |
|
"Mustang Sally" and made it into the Top 16 contestants on the show; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, At only 28 years of age, Sundance Head has had an |
|
extraordinary year; his good fortune includes his appearance on |
|
American Idol as well as his marriage and the birth of his first |
|
child, Levi Aron Head; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sundance Head has won the hearts of millions of |
|
television viewers nationwide, and his talent, drive, and |
|
enthusiasm surely herald a bright future; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Sundance Head on his appearance on |
|
American Idol and extend to him sincere best wishes for a successful |
|
musical career; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Head as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
