R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, U.S. Army veteran Horace P. Flatt of Terrell has |
|
provided invaluable service to his country as a mathematician who |
|
was instrumental in developing computer programs for ballistics |
|
research; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Flatt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean |
|
War; after completing his basic training, he was selected to serve |
|
at Aberdeen Proving Ground, a U.S. Army facility in Aberdeen, |
|
Maryland, to work on the Electronic Discreet Variable Automatic |
|
Computer, EDVAC; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to working alongside some of the |
|
brightest minds in the world, Mr. Flatt contributed to such |
|
projects as flight trajectories for the Redstone missile, the first |
|
American guided missile; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Flatt |
|
developed computer programs for the ballistic missile Minuteman, |
|
and he worked on several space projects; his impressive career |
|
culminated with his retirement as manager of the U.S. Scientific |
|
Centers; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Flatt has made a lasting contribution to |
|
science, mathematics, and the safety of this country, and he truly |
|
merits special recognition; now, therefore be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Mr. Horace P. Flatt for his impressive |
|
career achievements and service to the United States and extend to |
|
him best wishes for his future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Flatt as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
