R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Port Aransas High School girls' basketball team |
|
capped an outstanding season by reaching the 1A Division I |
|
semifinals of the University Interscholastic League 2007 Girls |
|
Basketball State Championships; and |
|
WHEREAS, Just the third Port Aransas girls' team to reach |
|
that plateau of success in the school's history, the squad that |
|
battled for the state title in 2007 became a source of immense pride |
|
for the Port Aransas community; and |
|
WHEREAS, The team's success is the culmination of years of |
|
sacrifice, hard work, and dedication; this is particularly true of |
|
the Marlins' four senior players, Katie Coeckelenbergh, Leah |
|
Matthews, Mary Teller, and Whitney Williams; Ms. Williams closed |
|
out her high school career with another outstanding season and |
|
became only the 11th female player in Texas to score 3,000 points in |
|
her career; and |
|
WHEREAS, The team also received essential contributions from |
|
its other talented players: Elizabeth Dupnik, Kathy Ashley, Sarah |
|
Pate, Meredith Berry, Lia Phillips, Alyssa Crawford, Elaine Franco, |
|
Hannah Jones, and Katelin Dupnik; these exceptional |
|
student-athletes were guided by head coach Randy Henderson and |
|
assistant coach Karen Hall, whose mastery of preparation and |
|
strategy were key to the victorious season; and |
|
WHEREAS, Posting an impressive record of 34 wins and just six |
|
losses for the year, the Marlins played admirably throughout the |
|
regular season and the playoffs, proving themselves to be worthy |
|
representatives of their school and community; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the girls' basketball team of Port |
|
Aransas High School on reaching the semifinals of the UIL Girls |
|
Basketball State Championships and extend best wishes to the |
|
players, coaches, and staff for future success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
