R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Weslaco High School boys' basketball team |
|
|
completed the longest playoff run in school history during its |
|
|
2006-2007 season, advancing to the UIL regional semifinals in San |
|
|
Antonio; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Panthers captured the bi-district, area, and |
|
|
regional quarterfinal championships en route to posting an |
|
|
impressive 33-5 season record, which included 14 wins and no losses |
|
|
in district play; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Head coach Gabe Valdez schooled his players in the |
|
|
importance of basketball fundamentals and teamwork; assistant |
|
|
coaches Zeke Rodriguez, Joe Yanez, Juan Cadena, Saul Garza, and |
|
|
Cruz Morales also made vital contributions to the team's success; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Team members include District 32-5A most valuable |
|
|
player Uriel Segura, first-team all-district selections Francisco |
|
|
"Kiko" Rodriguez and Tommy Sotuyo, second-team all-district |
|
|
honoree Daniel Ryan, sophomore of the year Marcus Cabrera, and |
|
|
all-district honorable mention selections Eddie Cantu, Eli Gaona, |
|
|
and Pepe Cabrera; rounding out the team's roster are Josh Pemelton, |
|
|
Eric Villa, Israil Almazan, Joe Martinez, Anthony Martinez, Robert |
|
|
Trejo, and Pete Vega; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These talented student-athletes have gained the |
|
|
respect and admiration of their classmates and many fans in the |
|
|
Weslaco community, and their commitment to hard work in the pursuit |
|
|
of excellence will serve them well in all their future endeavors; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Weslaco High School boys' |
|
|
basketball team on its outstanding season and extend best wishes to |
|
|
the team's players and coaches for continued success; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
