R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bedford City Councilman Leahmon Frank Chambers
  passed away on February 16, 2007, at the age of 74, leaving behind a
  loving family and a legacy of accomplishment that will be
  remembered for years to come; and
         WHEREAS, Leahmon Chambers grew up in Abilene and earned an
  associate's degree from Ranger College; employed by American
  Airlines for 28 years in facilities maintenance, he and his wife,
  the late Pat Chambers, had four children; and
         WHEREAS, Elected to the Bedford City Council, Mr. Chambers
  served from 1993 to 1997 and from 2004 to 2007; known for his
  efforts to control spending and cut taxes, he cast the deciding vote
  in the adoption of a property tax freeze for seniors in 2004, and in
  2005 he was among the council members who voted against a 27 percent
  tax rate increase; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the city council, Mr.
  Chambers served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Parks and
  Recreation Board, and the Planning and Zoning Commission for the
  City of Bedford; in his leisure time he enjoyed attending local
  events and was a member of the Mid-Cities Optimist Club, Hurst
  Masonic Lodge, and the Hurst Amateur Radio Club; and
         WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Leahmon
  Chambers will remember a man who wanted to make things better, who
  exemplified integrity, and who touched the lives of countless
  individuals with his civic involvement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Leahmon Frank
  Chambers and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
  to his daughters, Rene Mikeska and her husband, Malcolm, Michele
  Ward and her husband, Greg, and Charisse Stapp and her husband, Tony
  Mathis; to his grandchildren, Jeremy Mikeska and his wife, Jenni,
  Shane Mikeska and his wife, Lindsay, Desiree Mikeska, and Collier
  and Landry Ward; to his great-grandchildren, Keaton, Gavin, and
  Gracyn Mikeska; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leahmon
  Chambers.
