R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Locally owned businesses are essential to the |
|
well-being of Texas, providing an economic and cultural foundation |
|
for communities all across the Lone Star State; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Skate Whirl roller rink in Wichita Falls has |
|
offered citizens of that city fun and recreation for over 30 years; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Now owned and run by Ray and Karen Gordon, the rink |
|
offers family-friendly entertainment on a 14,000 square foot |
|
skating floor, along with a snack bar, video games, a pool table, |
|
air hockey, and a pro shop; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Gordon began working at Skate Whirl as a disc |
|
jockey in 1974, when the rink was owned by Jack and Jean Singleton; |
|
after the rink was destroyed by the devastating tornado of 1979, Mr. |
|
Gordon helped to rebuild the rink, and by 1982, he and his wife, |
|
Karen, had begun running the business; and |
|
WHEREAS, Now serving a second generation of skaters, Skate |
|
Whirl offers area residents opportunities for birthday parties, |
|
private parties, and special events, all in a safe, family-oriented |
|
environment; as a venue for community activity and wholesome |
|
diversion, the rink is an important factor in the quality of life in |
|
Wichita Falls; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Ray and Karen Gordon on the success |
|
of Skate Whirl and extend to them best wishes for continued good |
|
fortune with their family-owned business; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Gordons as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
