R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot diminish the pain of a young life ended
  too soon, and it is with great sadness that we join the family and
  friends of Philip Abraham Mahl in mourning his passing on February
  24, 2007, at the age of 26; and
         WHEREAS, Born on December 5, 1980, in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon,
  Mexico, Philip Mahl moved to Del Rio with his family in 1983; he
  attended the Little Schoolhouse, North Heights Elementary School,
  and was a member of the Del Rio High School Class of 1999;  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Mahl, a multicultural Texan fluent in Spanish,
  English, and French, lived in Costa Rica for a year as a participant
  in Rotary International's Youth Exchange Program; returning home in
  the summer of 2000, he served as a legislative page with the Texas
  House of Representatives; and
         WHEREAS, Philip Mahl established an impressive career in the
  culinary arts that began in Austin, with his affiliation with Siena
  Ristorante Toscano; in 2001, he traveled to Lyon, France, to attend
  L'Institut Paul Bocuse, Hôtellerie et Arts Culinaires, graduating
  in 2003 with a degree in culinary arts and restaurant management;
  that same year, he was part of the Bocuse d'Or, an international
  culinary competition in which he assisted the USA team; this
  talented, high-energy individual earned respect for his work in
  historic, prestigious kitchens both at home and abroad, including
  restaurants located in Paris and Vienne, France; Boston,
  Massachusetts; McLean, Virginia; and New York City and East
  Hampton, New York; and
         WHEREAS, Although deeply saddened by his death, his loved
  ones may take some comfort in the many happy times spent in his
  company and treasure their memories of this accomplished young man;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Philip Abraham Mahl
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  mother, Ramona Mahl; to his father, Jeffrey Steven Mahl; to his
  sisters, Tula Quetzal Mahl and Ethiopia Seyfu Sisay; to his
  maternal grandmother, Ma del Socorro Mancha Molinar; to his
  paternal grandfather, Charles Zingman; and to his other relatives
  and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Philip
  Abraham Mahl.
