R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The city of Grapevine has been selected as a 2007 |
|
|
Preserve America Community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This prestigious distinction is sponsored by the |
|
|
Preserve America initiative, a joint project of the White House, |
|
|
the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and several federal |
|
|
agencies; communities earning this recognition not only |
|
|
demonstrate a resolute dedication to protecting and celebrating |
|
|
their heritage, but they also use their historic assets for |
|
|
economic development and community revitalization and encourage |
|
|
people to experience and appreciate local historic resources |
|
|
through educational programs and heritage tourism; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, One of four Texas cities earning this honor, |
|
|
Grapevine is home to two historic districts and a number of historic |
|
|
landmarks, including the Palace Theatre, Nash Farm, and the |
|
|
Grapevine Vintage Railroad; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Working to ensure the continued preservation of this |
|
|
celebrated community are the members of the Grapevine Heritage |
|
|
Foundation, Grapevine Historical Society, Grapevine Historic |
|
|
Preservation Commission, and a number of other dedicated residents |
|
|
and civic leaders; their efforts are wide-ranging and include |
|
|
offering grants and other financial incentives to ensure that the |
|
|
presence of the city's rich and storied past remains an important |
|
|
part of its future; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Grapevine have made tremendous |
|
|
efforts to preserve their history, and in working to fulfill this |
|
|
important goal, they are ensuring that future generations will be |
|
|
able to enjoy and learn from all that has come before; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the city of Grapevine on being |
|
|
named a 2007 Preserve America Community and extend to its citizens |
|
|
best wishes for continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the city of Grapevine as an expression of high regard |
|
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
