R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and many friends
  of Lester Massey of Dallas, who passed away on March 7, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Air Force, "Buck" 
  Massey served his country in the Vietnam War and went on to pursue a
  career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2005; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Massey's most prominent role was that of
  political activist; he was a leader in the Stonewall Democrats of
  Dallas, the city's largest gay and lesbian political group, serving
  as chair of political affairs and on the organization's national
  board; in addition, he was elected to the State Democratic
  Executive Committee, served on the board of the J. P. Joyce
  Committee Vote Foundation, and was a member of the County Executive
  Committee for the Dallas County Democratic Party; and
         WHEREAS, Highly regarded as a mentor, Mr. Massey worked with
  the Stonewall Young Democrats of Dallas, encouraging members to
  vote, and further shared his time with efforts to help those whose
  lives had been affected by HIV and AIDS; and
         WHEREAS, Well-known for his outgoing personality and his
  singular style, Buck Massey was a passionate force for change and an
  eloquent advocate for gay and lesbian rights, and he leaves behind a
  legacy that will continue to benefit the lives of countless Texans;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lester Massey and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family:  to his
  mother, Mary Massey; to his sister, Anne French; and to his other
  relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Buck
  Massey.
