R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Having demonstrated great promise as a student and |
|
citizen, Tajah Burton is being recognized at the Reginald Keith |
|
Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards Luncheon on April 14, 2007; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, This gathering is honoring 16 students in grades 5 |
|
through 12 who have distinguished themselves through their academic |
|
pursuits and civic involvement; the awards pay tribute to the |
|
memory of Reginald Keith Guillory, a student, musician, and member |
|
of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Houston, whose tragic death in |
|
an auto accident at age 18 prompted area residents to create a |
|
scholarship fund; and |
|
WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient of this honor, Tajah |
|
Burton is the 18-year-old daughter of Tammy S. Burton; she is an |
|
honor student at Kempner High School and a member of Good Hope |
|
Missionary Baptist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Burton has received the Presidential Award for |
|
Physical Fitness and certificates for most artistic, national |
|
physical fitness, and music, as well as medals for track and field; |
|
she is a member of the West Oaks School of Music and the Kempner High |
|
School Orchestra and has played with the Polytechnic High School |
|
Orchestra in Long Beach, California; she aspires to attend the |
|
University of Houston to study music theory and composition, as |
|
well as business management, and she hopes to one day own her own |
|
music school and business; and |
|
WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is a source of tremendous |
|
pride to her family and teachers, and it is a pleasure to recognize |
|
Tajah Burton as an exemplary member of the community whose many |
|
achievements foretell a bright future; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Tajah Burton on being a 2007 |
|
honoree of the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards |
|
Luncheon and extend to her best wishes for additional success; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Burton as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
