R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Having demonstrated great promise as a student and |
|
|
citizen, Catrina Nicole Guillory is being recognized at the |
|
|
Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards Luncheon on |
|
|
April 14, 2007; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This gathering is honoring 16 students in grades 5 |
|
|
through 12 who have distinguished themselves through their academic |
|
|
pursuits and civic involvement; the awards pay tribute to the |
|
|
memory of Reginald Keith Guillory, a student, musician, and member |
|
|
of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Houston, whose tragic death in |
|
|
an auto accident at age 18 prompted area residents to create a |
|
|
scholarship fund; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient of this accolade, |
|
|
12-year-old Catrina Nicole Guillory is the daughter of Calvin and |
|
|
Kathie Guillory and is a sixth-grade honor roll student at Atherton |
|
|
Elementary School; she has received awards for her achievements in |
|
|
the Reading Club/Library Club, the Science Fair, and computer |
|
|
completion, and she holds the title of TAAS Queen 2005; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to her studies, Ms. Guillory is an |
|
|
active member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and participates |
|
|
in the Hands of Praise program; moreover, she is cocaptain of her |
|
|
cheerleading squads at Atherton and Fleming and has performed |
|
|
volunteer work distributing food to Hurricane Katrina victims, as |
|
|
well as reading stories to younger children and serving as a math |
|
|
tutor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is a source of tremendous |
|
|
pride to her family and teachers, and it is a pleasure to recognize |
|
|
Catrina Nicole Guillory as an exemplary member of the community |
|
|
whose many achievements foretell a bright future; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Catrina Nicole Guillory on being a |
|
|
2007 honoree of the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic |
|
|
Awards Luncheon and extend to her best wishes for additional |
|
|
success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Guillory as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
