R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Having demonstrated great promise as a student and |
|
citizen, Brandon Johnson is being recognized at the Reginald Keith |
|
Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards Luncheon on April 14, 2007; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, This gathering is honoring 16 students in grades 5 |
|
through 12 who have distinguished themselves through their academic |
|
pursuits and civic involvement; the awards pay tribute to the |
|
memory of Reginald Keith Guillory, a student, musician, and member |
|
of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Houston, whose tragic death in |
|
an auto accident at age 18 prompted area residents to create a |
|
scholarship fund; and |
|
WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient of this accolade, Brandon |
|
Johnson is the 17-year-old son of Demetrice Johnson; an honor |
|
student at Prosperity High School, this talented senior has |
|
showcased his abilities as a participant in Showtime at the Apollo, |
|
the Stellar Awards for 2006, Star Search, and other local |
|
competitions, and his involvement with the Apollo Choir earned him |
|
a gold medal; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his interest in music, Mr. Johnson is |
|
a community volunteer who is active in Higher Dimensions, Bible |
|
study, the YMCA, Men of Excellence, the Boys and Girls Club, and |
|
more; he plans to attend college and major in international |
|
marketing and hopes to one day have a career involving music and |
|
youth; and |
|
WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is a source of tremendous |
|
pride to his family and teachers, and it is a pleasure to recognize |
|
Brandon Johnson as an exemplary member of the community whose many |
|
achievements foretell a bright future; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Brandon Johnson on being a 2007 |
|
honoree of the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards |
|
Luncheon and extend to him best wishes for additional success; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Johnson as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
