R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Having demonstrated great promise as a student and
  citizen, Jonathan-Blake Flemings is being recognized at the
  Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards Luncheon on
  April 14, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, This gathering is honoring 16 students in grades 5
  through 12 who have distinguished themselves through their academic
  pursuits and civic involvement; the awards pay tribute to the
  memory of Reginald Keith Guillory, a student, musician, and member
  of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Houston, whose tragic death in
  an auto accident at age 18 prompted area residents to create a
  scholarship fund; and
         WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient of this honor, Jonathan
  Flemings is the 16-year-old son of Charles and Valorie Flemings and
  the grandson of the Reverend O. D. and Bennie Baker; he is an
  11th-grade student at S. P. Waltrip High School and a member of
  Faithful Central Missionary Baptist Church, where he participates
  in the Youth Choir and the Youth Department; he is also a volunteer
  at the Wesley Elementary School After School Program; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Flemings is a member of the National Honor
  Society and has been listed in Who's Who Among American High School
  Students; he has taken part in the California Scholarship
  Federation, Top Teens of America, and People to People Student
  Ambassador programs; in addition to being president of the Black
  Student Union, he has also been the Palos Verdes High School
  Associative Student Body commissioner at large, a student council
  representative, and a youth and government team member; and
         WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is a source of tremendous
  pride to his family and teachers, and it is a pleasure to recognize
  Jonathan Flemings as an exemplary member of the community whose
  many achievements foretell a bright future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jonathan-Blake Flemings on being a
  2007 honoree of the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic
  Awards Luncheon and extend to him best wishes for additional
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Flemings as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
