R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Having demonstrated great promise as a student and
  citizen, Maureen Ezekor is being recognized at the Reginald Keith
  Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards Luncheon on April 14, 2007;
  and
         WHEREAS, This gathering is honoring 16 students in grades 5
  through 12 who have distinguished themselves through their academic
  pursuits and civic involvement; the awards pay tribute to the
  memory of Reginald Keith Guillory, a student, musician, and member
  of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Houston, whose tragic death in
  an auto accident at age 18 prompted area residents to create a
  scholarship fund; and
         WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient of this honor, Maureen
  Ezekor is the 14-year-old daughter of Lena Alex; she is an
  eighth-grade student at Lamar Fleming Middle School and a member of
  Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Ezekor has received awards for her
  participation in the Project Grad math competition and her
  achievements in the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test;
  she earned science fair first place honors, is listed on the Honor
  Roll, and was crowned Miss Personality and Most Likely to Succeed;
  and
         WHEREAS, Maureen Ezekor is a member of the National Honor
  Society, the Ladies of Grace, Elegance, Maturity and Sisterhood,
  Houston's Young Scholars, Name That Book Team Book Club, Girls
  Cooperation, and Upward Bound; she has helped deliver food baskets
  to senior citizens and those in need, while also offering
  assistance to her homebound neighbors; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Ezekor enjoys writing poetry, playing the
  piano, reading, and listening to music; she hopes to obtain a Ph.D.,
  own her own business in the field of health or law, become a role
  model for younger girls, and make a difference in the world; and
         WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is a source of tremendous
  pride to her family and teachers, and it is a pleasure to recognize
  Maureen Ezekor as an exemplary member of the community whose many
  achievements foretell a bright future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Maureen Ezekor on being a 2007
  honoree of the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards
  Luncheon and extend to her best wishes for additional success; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Ezekor as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
