H.R. No. 1331

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Having demonstrated great promise as a student and citizen, A'ysha Williams is being recognized at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards Luncheon on April 14, 2007; and

WHEREAS, This gathering is honoring 16 students in grades 5 through 12 who have distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an auto accident at age 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund; and

WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient of this accolade, A'ysha Williams is the 13-year-old daughter of Carla Johnson; this eighth-grader at Lamar Fleming Middle School was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society and has received awards for perfect attendance, piano, and involvement with sports; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Williams is active in Lakewood Church and is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes; her goals are to become a pediatrician and see the world; and

WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is a source of tremendous pride to her family and teachers, and it is a pleasure to recognize A'ysha Williams as an exemplary member of the community whose many achievements foretell a bright future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate A'ysha Williams on being a 2007 honoree of the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship/Academic Awards Luncheon and extend to her best wishes for additional success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Williams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
