R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
  the loss of U.S. Navy Petty Officer First Class Gilbert "Beto"
  Minjares, Jr., of El Paso, who died on February 7, 2007, at the age
  of 31, while serving his country in Iraq; and
         WHEREAS, A member of Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd Marine
  Aircraft Wing, based at Cherry Point, North Carolina, Petty
  Officer Minjares was killed in a helicopter crash in Al Anbar
  Province; deployed to Iraq just seven days earlier, he served as a
  hospital corpsman; and
         WHEREAS, Beto Minjares graduated in 1994 from Hanks High
  School, where he played fullback and quarterback on the football
  team; he went on to pursue a career as a medic in the navy and
  completed training at the Basic Hospital Corps School; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his hearty smile and love of dancing,
  Petty Officer Minjares was a devoted husband, father, son, and
  brother; he was proud to belong to the U.S. armed forces and eagerly
  volunteered his service for Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men
  and women whose love of country leads them to military duty, and
  time can never diminish the profound debt that Americans owe to
  Gilbert Minjares for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he
  rendered; and
         WHEREAS, The thoughts and prayers of many go out to the family
  of this beloved man; he was a soldier of honor and valor, and those
  who were fortunate to share in the blessing of his life will forever
  carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Navy Petty
  Officer First Class Gilbert "Beto" Minjares, Jr., and extend
  sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Jeannie
  Minjares; to his son, Gilbert Minjares III; to his daughter,
  Miranda Minjares; to his parents, Rosa and Gilbert Minjares, Sr.;
  to his sisters, Zonia and Aurora Minjares and Laura Gomez; to his
  brother, Joe Minjares; to his grandmother, Maria G. Cano; and to his
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Navy
  Petty Officer First Class Gilbert "Beto" Minjares, Jr.
