R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard Rodriguez is stepping down as |
|
mayor of Harlingen in May 2007 after nearly a decade of committed |
|
public service; and |
|
WHEREAS, Elected city commissioner in 1998, Rick Rodriguez |
|
served two consecutive terms before being elected mayor in 2004; in |
|
that demanding role, he has expanded economic opportunity in the |
|
community to encompass retail development, supporting the creation |
|
of two new shopping centers, and he was instrumental in securing the |
|
preservation of one of the area's popular attractions, Tony Butler |
|
Municipal Golf Course; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of St. Mary's University, Mayor Rodriguez |
|
earned his law degree in 1991 from the Thurgood Marshall School of |
|
Law, and his legal expertise has further helped to serve the |
|
community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Rick Rodriguez has worked tirelessly in behalf of |
|
his fellow residents, and his vision, dedication, and civic spirit |
|
will continue to benefit the city of Harlingen for many years to |
|
come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Mayor Richard Rodriguez for his myriad |
|
contributions to the city of Harlingen and extend to him sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mayor Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
