R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard Rodriguez is stepping down as
  mayor of Harlingen in May 2007 after nearly a decade of committed
  public service; and
         WHEREAS, Elected city commissioner in 1998, Rick Rodriguez
  served two consecutive terms before being elected mayor in 2004; in
  that demanding role, he has expanded economic opportunity in the
  community to encompass retail development, supporting the creation
  of two new shopping centers, and he was instrumental in securing the
  preservation of one of the area's popular attractions, Tony Butler
  Municipal Golf Course; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of St. Mary's University, Mayor Rodriguez
  earned his law degree in 1991 from the Thurgood Marshall School of
  Law, and his legal expertise has further helped to serve the
  community; and
         WHEREAS, Rick Rodriguez has worked tirelessly in behalf of
  his fellow residents, and his vision, dedication, and civic spirit
  will continue to benefit the city of Harlingen for many years to
  come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Mayor Richard Rodriguez for his myriad
  contributions to the city of Harlingen and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
