R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Liberty-Eylau Leopards of Texarkana topped the |
|
Robinson Rockets in December 2006 to claim the UIL Division 1-3A |
|
State Football Championship, and the team's victory set off a |
|
unique celebration in the "Twice as Nice" city; and |
|
WHEREAS, Positioned on the Texas-Arkansas border, Texarkana |
|
is home to Texans and Arkansans alike, and football fans from each |
|
state were fortunate to witness championship wins on both sides of |
|
the state line in 2006; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Leopards, who finished the season with an |
|
impressive 13-2 record, joined the Arkansas High School Razorbacks |
|
in winning a coveted state title; this marks the first time in |
|
Texarkana's history that high school championships have been |
|
simultaneously held by a team from Texas and a team from Arkansas; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Considered underdogs for most of the season, the |
|
Leopards silenced their critics with a memorable display of |
|
gridiron excellence; head coach Pat Brady and his team earned the |
|
school's second state football championship by relying on teamwork |
|
and a commitment to football fundamentals throughout the demanding |
|
season; and |
|
WHEREAS, Texarkana's Texan citizens are justifiably proud of |
|
the Liberty-Eylau Leopards football team, and the city's entire |
|
population can undoubtedly appreciate the historic achievement of |
|
Texarkana's two reigning state football champions; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Pat Brady and the |
|
Liberty-Eylau Leopards on winning the 2006 UIL Division 1-3A State |
|
Football Championship and extend best wishes to the many |
|
individuals who contributed to this impressive accomplishment; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
