R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The tragic death of Jackie Waynn Lester of Lubbock
  on March 13, 2007, at the age of 50, has brought great sorrow to his
  family, his friends, and his fellow firefighters; and
         WHEREAS, A Lubbock native, "Jay" Lester was born to Jim and
  Nettie Lester on December 18, 1956; he graduated from Monterey High
  School in 1975 and attended South Plains College on a rodeo
  scholarship; and
         WHEREAS, In 1977, Mr. Lester established Jay Lester Custom
  Drywall; two years later, on December 1, 1979, he married Barbara
  Scott, and together they shared many happy times and became the
  parents of four children; and
         WHEREAS, Drawn to public service, Mr. Lester joined the
  Lubbock Fire Department in 1980; during his 26-year tenure, he
  specialized in heavy rescue and served that organization in several
  capacities, earning the rank of lieutenant; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed public servant was honored in 1985 by
  the Lubbock City Council and the citizens of Lubbock for
  firefighting, rescue, and unselfish acts; in 2005, the community
  named him its Firefighter of the Year and presented him with a
  certificate of merit; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Lester enjoyed membership in a number of groups,
  including the Lubbock Soccer Association, the Lubbock High School
  Rodeo Association, the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association,
  the Lubbock Saddle Club, Professional Bull Riders, and FFA; he was
  also active with the Red Bud Lions Club, the Monterey Booster Club,
  the Lubbock Rangers, the NRA, and the International Association of
  Fire Fighters; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime baseball coach and an avid outdoorsman,
  Mr. Lester worked with many Little League teams and enjoyed hunting
  and fishing with family and friends; his other hobbies included
  softball, bull riding, calf roping, dirt-track racing, and
  following NASCAR; and
         WHEREAS, Jay Lester lived a dynamic and purposeful life, and
  he leaves behind memories that will be forever treasured by all
  those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jackie Waynn Lester
  and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Barbara Lester; to his son, Jason Lester, and his wife, Misty;
  to his daughters, Jennifer, Julie, and Jacey Lester; to his
  mother-in-law, Jerry Scott; to his sister, Nan Rogers, and her
  husband, Gary; to his brother-in-law, Mark Scott, and his wife,
  Denise; to his niece and nephews, Becky, Matt, and Ben Scott, and
  Dustin Rogers; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jay Lester.
