R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Westwood Elementary School in Friendswood has been
  honored with the first-ever Texas State School of Character Award;
  and
         WHEREAS, The award is sponsored by Character Education
  Partnership (CEP), a national advocate for fostering character
  education in kindergarten through 12th grade; CEP recognizes
  outstanding schools and districts, such as Westwood Elementary
  School, for their exemplary work in improving the behavior and
  learning of their students through their focus on building strong
  character; and
         WHEREAS, Chosen for its dedication to the social and
  emotional well-being of children, Westwood Elementary School has
  asserted a firm commitment to promoting a solid sense of ethics in
  its students, instilling in them the importance of honesty,
  fairness, responsibility, and respect for self and others; and
         WHEREAS, By integrating good character education into all
  aspects of the school day, Westwood Elementary School is working to
  provide long-term solutions to moral and ethical problems facing
  not only our schools but also all of society; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the students, faculty, and staff of
  Westwood Elementary School on the school's receipt of the inaugural
  Texas State School of Character Award and extend to all associated
  with the school best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Westwood Elementary School as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
