R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Alice lost a beloved friend and a
  respected civic leader with the passing of Cecil Carlisle on
  December 21, 2006, at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Born on May 4, 1921, in the town he would proudly
  call home all his life, Mr. Carlisle was a graduate of Alice High
  School, where he was senior class president and an All-District end
  for the Alice Coyotes football team; in 1943, he earned his
  bachelor's degree in business from Texas A&M University before
  bravely serving his country in World War II as a B-17 pilot; and
         WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life in 1946, Mr.
  Carlisle began a career in the insurance business, eventually
  becoming president of Carlisle Insurance Agency; his years of civic
  service to his community included tenures on the city council, as a
  charter member of the Jim Wells County Master Planners Association,
  and as president of the Alice Chamber of Commerce, which honored him
  in 1988 with induction into its Hall of Honor; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Carlisle was first elected mayor of Alice in
  1959, and he held the office until 1967; throughout his
  distinguished service, he was instrumental in the development of
  the city and set a sterling example of leadership that is still
  resonant today; and
         WHEREAS, A lifetime member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church,
  he served on the Diocese of Corpus Christi Advisory Board for four
  bishops, and helped to found the St. Elizabeth School Endowment
  Fund; in addition, this charter member of the Knights of Columbus
  Council #2992 was honored with the title of Knight of the Equestrian
  Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and was awarded the
  distinction of Knight of St. Gregory the Great by Pope John Paul II;
  and
         WHEREAS, Highly regarded by all who knew him, Mr. Carlisle
  built a life that was rich in family, friends, and accomplishments,
  and although he will be deeply missed, he will always be remembered
  with great respect and admiration; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Cecil Carlisle and
  extend sympathy to the members of his family: to his children, Nancy
  Carlisle, Chuck Carlisle and his wife, Mary Jane, Tom Carlisle and
  his wife, Brenda, and Michael Carlisle; to his wife, Janet Carlisle
  and to her children, Hicks Harris and his wife, Tracy, Hayden Harris
  and his wife, Linda, and Hollis Harris and his wife, Jennifer; to
  his grandchildren, Lisa, Allison, Daniel, David, Robert, Chase,
  Juliana, Hunter, Hondo, Shane, Maggie, and Emily; to his seven
  great-grandchildren; to his brother, Gerald Carlisle; and to his
  other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cecil
  Carlisle.
