R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Sharon Strain, the executive director of the
  Galveston Housing Authority, is ending one chapter of her life and
  beginning another with her retirement at the end of May 2007; and
         WHEREAS, The Galveston Housing Authority oversees nearly
  1,000 units of federally subsidized housing, a rental assistance
  program, and several programs promoting home ownership; and
         WHEREAS, In her 10 years directing the housing authority, Ms.
  Strain has been instrumental in revitalizing the public housing
  system in Galveston; taking charge of the organization during a
  challenging time in its history, she successfully worked to restore
  the authority's "high performer" rating with the U.S. Department of
  Housing and Urban Development; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Strain's superb management skills have been
  matched by her genuine compassion for the residents of public
  housing; not only has she worked to ensure housing for Galveston's
  neediest and most vulnerable citizens, she has also been a leader in
  the effort to help low-income and middle-income residents buy their
  own homes; and
         WHEREAS, Sharon Strain may indeed reflect with pride on her
  innovative leadership, which has helped to ensure a brighter future
  for countless area Texans; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Sharon Strain on her outstanding tenure
  with the Galveston Housing Authority and extend best wishes to her
  for a happy retirement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Strain as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
