R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Johnnie Rountree has long been a devoted supporter |
|
of the Galena Park Independent School District, and his notable |
|
achievements in this regard are truly worthy of commendation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Recognizing the value of education at an early age, |
|
Mr. Rountree was determined to earn a diploma after dropping out of |
|
high school to care for his father; Galena Park administrators |
|
worked to accommodate him, and to express his appreciation, he |
|
joined the ex-student association after his graduation, helping to |
|
raise enough money to offer the group's first scholarships to local |
|
students; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Rountree went on to run for the school board, |
|
earning election to the body in 1969; during his 29-year tenure as a |
|
trustee, he helped to build a strong working relationship with |
|
school administration and ably addressed a number of challenges |
|
facing the district; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Rountree currently serves as director of the |
|
Galena Park ISD Education Foundation, where he has helped to raise |
|
scholarship money for young men and women in need; before joining |
|
the group, this talented businessman operated his own successful |
|
clothing store, Rountree-Williams, for more than three decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Also active in the greater community, he has been a |
|
valued member of the Optimist Club for 40 years and, as a member of |
|
the local Jaycees, he worked to ensure that the district has the |
|
highest immunization rate in the city; and |
|
WHEREAS, An example of a truly outstanding community leader, |
|
Johnnie Rountree has provided countless schoolchildren with new |
|
opportunities and, in so doing, he has earned the lasting |
|
appreciation of citizens throughout Galena Park; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Johnnie Rountree for his outstanding |
|
service to the Galena Park Independent School District and extend |
|
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Rountree as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
