R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Chief Steve Klempa of the Iowa Park Police |
|
Department begins a new chapter of his life with his retirement on |
|
March 30, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of New Jersey, Steve Klempa served his |
|
country as a military policeman in the air force; he met Opal, his |
|
wife of 45 years, while he was stationed in Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, After leaving the service, Mr. Klempa joined the |
|
police department in Temple, where he rose through the ranks from |
|
officer to deputy chief; during his long tenure, he became an expert |
|
in many facets of police work, from patrol duty to internal affairs |
|
investigation; a veteran polygraph examiner as well, he set up the |
|
first polygraph lab at the department; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Klempa furthered his education by studying at |
|
the police academy and the University of Central Texas in Killeen; |
|
he holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice, and he is |
|
also a proud 1974 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, |
|
Virginia; and |
|
WHEREAS, This dedicated law enforcement officer left Temple |
|
after 28 years and went on to serve as chief of the Copperas Cove |
|
Police Department for four years; after a brief initial retirement, |
|
Chief Klempa returned to police work for 3-1/2 years with the |
|
Robinson Police Department, and he has headed the Iowa Park Police |
|
Department since 2002, where he managed a department of 11 officers |
|
and six civilian employees; working with the community, he has been |
|
instrumental in maintaining Iowa Park's quality of life and low |
|
crime rate; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Steve Klempa has been serving and protecting |
|
communities in Texas for nearly 40 years, and his exemplary record |
|
as a law enforcement officer has earned him the admiration and |
|
respect of both the public and his fellow officers; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Steve Klempa on his retirement from |
|
the Iowa Park Police Department and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Chief Klempa as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
