H.R. No. 1385
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Fermin Dorado has earned the Sembrador del Bien
  Award from the Sin Fronteras Organizing Project for his notable
  efforts to promote justice and positive change in his community;
  and
         WHEREAS, A native of El Paso, Mr. Dorado earned his
  automotive mechanic certification from El Paso Technical School
  before serving his country as a member of the U.S. Army; discharged
  from the military in 1967, he used the GI Bill to attend The
  University of Texas at El Paso, where he earned bachelor's and
  master's degrees in civil engineering; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Dorado went on to enjoy a distinguished career
  as the city engineer for the City of El Paso, during which he
  managed numerous major construction projects, including health
  clinics, branch libraries, fire stations, community centers,
  parks, and athletic fields, as well as improvements to public
  works; in addition, he developed a city ordinance to ensure the
  process for selecting engineers and architects to design city
  projects would provide equal opportunities, and it has since opened
  the doors to many who were previously denied access; and
         WHEREAS, Now president of Dorado Engineering, Inc., Mr.
  Dorado has long supported his hometown through his involvement with
  such noteworthy organizations as the United Way of El Paso County,
  the Boy Scouts of America, and Centro Medico del Valle; moreover, he
  has served as president of the Fiesta de las Flores Hispanic
  Cultural Center and of LULAC Council No. 132; and
         WHEREAS, The strength of our communities depends on the
  commitment and dedication of leaders who, like Fermin Dorado, use
  their considerable talents to benefit others; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Fermin Dorado on his receipt of the
  Sembrador del Bien Award from the Sin Fronteras Organizing Project
  and commend him for his work in behalf of the citizens of El Paso;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Dorado as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
