R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Cortney Sanders has earned first place honors in her |
|
category at the Houston ISD Regional History Fair, qualifying her |
|
for the state-level Texas History Day contest being held at the Bob |
|
Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin on April 27-28, 2007; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Part of the National History Day program, Texas |
|
History Day is a year-long educational endeavor that provides |
|
students in grades six through 12 with an opportunity to develop |
|
their history knowledge and demonstrate their grasp of historical |
|
subjects through group or individual projects; an estimated 20,000 |
|
Texas students participate each year, with only 900 being selected |
|
to share their project as a part of the state-level event; and |
|
WHEREAS, Inspired by this year's theme, "Triumph and |
|
Tragedy," Ms. Sanders selected Helen Keller as her subject, and her |
|
efforts were recognized with first place honors in the Senior |
|
Individual Exhibit category; and |
|
WHEREAS, This talented young Texan is a fine arts magnet |
|
school student at Kashmere Senior High School, where she is on the |
|
honor roll, a peer tutor, and an active member of the Student |
|
Council, KHS Book Club, and KHS Leadership Team; her community |
|
service includes work with area homeless as a member of Fellowship |
|
Baptist Church and the Citizen, Housing, and Motivation Program; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Sanders is an outstanding student who may take |
|
pride in her significant accomplishments and look forward to a |
|
future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Cortney Sanders on winning first |
|
place honors at the Houston ISD Regional History Fair and extend to |
|
her best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Sanders as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
