R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, In April 2007, Maestro Hector Guzman is celebrating |
|
15 years as music director and conductor of the Irving Symphony |
|
Orchestra; and |
|
WHEREAS, Maestro Guzman joined the group in August 1991, and |
|
his exceptional talent, vast experience, and dedication to his |
|
craft have earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow |
|
musicians; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the Irving Symphony |
|
Orchestra, Maestro Guzman directs the Plano Symphony Orchestra and |
|
the San Angelo Symphony; a native of Mexico, he has also directed |
|
the Jalisco Philharmonic and has served as guest conductor for the |
|
State of Mexico Symphony and for ensembles around the world, |
|
including the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and the Collegium |
|
Orchestra of Prague; and |
|
WHEREAS, Maestro Guzman has studied at the Conservatory in |
|
Mexico City, the University of North Texas, and Southern Methodist |
|
University; trained under such eminent conductors as Anshel |
|
Brusilow, Helmuth Rilling, and Carlo Maria Giulini, he earned first |
|
place in the "Seven Conductors-One Baton" international conducting |
|
competition and has garnered such accolades as the Outstanding |
|
National Young Artist award from the government of Mexico, the |
|
Golden Lyre award from the Mexican Union of Musicians, and the |
|
Meadows award from SMU; and |
|
WHEREAS, An accomplished performer himself, Maestro Guzman |
|
has also earned a number of honors for his work as an organist, |
|
taking first prize in both the Chamber Soloists competition and the |
|
Manuel Ponce national organ competition, winning solo competitions |
|
at SMU and UNT, and becoming the first Latin American ever chosen as |
|
a finalist in France's Grand Prix de Chartres; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Hector Guzman has shared his |
|
passion for music with people around the world, using his |
|
remarkable talents to crystallize the drama and emotion of this |
|
universal art form for the enjoyment of all; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Hector Guzman on his 15th anniversary with |
|
the Irving Symphony Orchestra and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Maestro Guzman as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
