R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Gerald W. Gilbert is retiring as superintendent of
  Grand Saline ISD on May 31, 2007, concluding an outstanding career
  in education that has spanned nearly 50 years; and
         WHEREAS, Affiliated with Grand Saline ISD since 1963, Mr.
  Gilbert has served as the district's superintendent since 1988; his
  association with the district began when he was hired to teach
  science at Grand Saline High School; three years later he moved into
  administration, serving as principal of Grand Saline High School
  from 1966 to 1986 and principal of Grand Saline Middle School from
  1986 to 1988; and
         WHEREAS, An alumnus of Van High School, Mr. Gilbert is a
  graduate of Sam Houston State University and holds a bachelor of
  science degree and a master of education degree from the
  university; he began his career as an educator, teaching science in
  Bay City from 1958 to 1959 and in Aldine from 1959 to 1960 before
  taking time off to pursue his master's degree; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gilbert is an active civic leader who has
  devoted much time and energy to numerous groups, including the
  Grand Saline Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge, the Lions
  Club, and the First United Methodist Church; he has served on the
  board of directors of the Texas Association of Secondary School
  Principals and has been a member of the Texas Association of School
  Administrators, the Texas State Teachers Association, and the
  Association of Texas Professional Educators; he is also an honorary
  member of the Texas Association of Future Homemakers of America and
  FFA; and
         WHEREAS, During his tenure as superintendent of Grand Saline
  ISD, Mr. Gilbert has overseen numerous construction projects
  necessary to meet the needs of the district's growing student
  population; his guidance and commitment to pursuing prudent
  financial strategies earned him a well-deserved reputation for
  integrity in the community, and he leaves the district well
  prepared for the future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Gerald Gilbert on the occasion of his
  retirement as superintendent of Grand Saline ISD and commend him
  for his many years of exemplary service as an educator and
  administrator; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Gilbert as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
