R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Galveston County have lost a |
|
dedicated peace officer with the death of Constable Charles D. Gay |
|
of Santa Fe on March 30, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, "Skip" Gay was born on July 15, 1940, in McRae, |
|
Arkansas, and he had been a resident of Santa Fe, Texas, for 43 |
|
years; after working as a carpenter for more than two decades, he |
|
became interested in public service and worked as a reserve officer |
|
for the Galveston County Sheriff's office; he later became a deputy |
|
constable for Precinct No. 4 in Galveston County; he was elected |
|
constable of the precinct in 1983, and he ably served its residents |
|
in that capacity until the time of his death; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his duties as a public official, |
|
Constable Gay was involved in various community and recreational |
|
activities; a member of the Methodist faith, he was also active in |
|
the Democratic Club in Santa Fe and was an honorary member of the |
|
Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3789; and |
|
WHEREAS, A friend to many, Mr. Gay was especially devoted to |
|
his wife of more than 35 years, Dolores Gay, and their six children, |
|
Rick, Ronny, Randy, Anita, Lisa, and Pamela; he also enjoyed the |
|
companionship of his dog, Daisey, and his horse, Smoke; and |
|
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Skip Gay will |
|
long remember this true Texas gentleman who championed public |
|
safety, whose calm demeanor inspired confidence in those around |
|
him, and who brightened the lives of countless individuals with his |
|
delightful sense of humor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Charles D. Gay and |
|
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|
Dolores Gay; to his children, Rick Turrentine, Ronny Turrentine, |
|
Randy Turrentine and his wife, Mary, Anita Weldon and her husband, |
|
Cody, Lisa David and her husband, Jerrel, and Pamela Secades and her |
|
husband, Rio; to his grandchildren, Meredith, Karissa, Kandace, |
|
Shawna, Ashley, Randy, Steven, Rush, Alex, Darby, Shelby, and |
|
Greyson; to his great-grandchildren, Mason, Marissa, Haze, Jagger, |
|
and Audrey; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Constable |
|
Charles Gay. |
