R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Shirley Jane Rollins, principal of J. C. Rugel |
|
Elementary School in Mesquite, has deservedly been named the 2007 |
|
Mesquite Independent School District Principal of the Year; and |
|
WHEREAS, The fourth of six children of Bert and Inez Rollins, |
|
Shirley Rollins was born in Sulphur Springs on July 14, 1942; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Rollins began her own education in a one-room |
|
school house in Ridgeway before moving with her family to Sulphur |
|
Springs, where she attended local schools and graduated from high |
|
school in 1959 at the age of 16; she went on to earn a bachelor's |
|
degree from East Texas State University three years later, and, |
|
since state law prohibited her from teaching here until she was 21, |
|
she traveled to Oklahoma and taught there for two years; and |
|
WHEREAS, She has been affiliated with Mesquite ISD since the |
|
early 1960s, when she was hired as a teacher at the age of 21, and |
|
she has excelled in her roles as both educator and administrator |
|
during her illustrious four-decade tenure; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1966, Ms. Rollins added a master's degree in |
|
education from East Texas State University to her growing list of |
|
academic achievements; she has been recognized by Who's Who Among |
|
America's Teachers and is also a member of the district's Apple |
|
Corps Teachers; and |
|
WHEREAS, As a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, |
|
Shirley Jane Rollins has demonstrated remarkable devotion to |
|
children and their education; she gains inspiration from her |
|
beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and her |
|
dedication to excellence in education is indeed exemplary; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Shirley Jane Rollins on her |
|
selection as the 2007 Mesquite Independent School District |
|
Principal of the Year and commend her for her exceptional efforts in |
|
support of the young people of Mesquite; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Rollins as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
