R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Shirley Jane Rollins, principal of J. C. Rugel
  Elementary School in Mesquite, has deservedly been named the 2007
  Mesquite Independent School District Principal of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, The fourth of six children of Bert and Inez Rollins,
  Shirley Rollins was born in Sulphur Springs on July 14, 1942; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Rollins began her own education in a one-room
  school house in Ridgeway before moving with her family to Sulphur
  Springs, where she attended local schools and graduated from high
  school in 1959 at the age of 16; she went on to earn a bachelor's
  degree from East Texas State University three years later, and,
  since state law prohibited her from teaching here until she was 21,
  she traveled to Oklahoma and taught there for two years; and
         WHEREAS, She has been affiliated with Mesquite ISD since the
  early 1960s, when she was hired as a teacher at the age of 21, and
  she has excelled in her roles as both educator and administrator
  during her illustrious four-decade tenure; and
         WHEREAS, In 1966, Ms. Rollins added a master's degree in
  education from East Texas State University to her growing list of
  academic achievements; she has been recognized by Who's Who Among
  America's Teachers and is also a member of the district's Apple
  Corps Teachers; and
         WHEREAS, As a teacher, assistant principal, and principal,
  Shirley Jane Rollins has demonstrated remarkable devotion to
  children and their education; she gains inspiration from her
  beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and her
  dedication to excellence in education is indeed exemplary; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Shirley Jane Rollins on her
  selection as the 2007 Mesquite Independent School District
  Principal of the Year and commend her for her exceptional efforts in
  support of the young people of Mesquite; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Rollins as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
