R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Mesquite High School boys' basketball team
  capped an exceptional 2006-2007 season by earning a berth in the 5A
  semifinals of the University Interscholastic League 2007 Boys
  Basketball State Championships; and
         WHEREAS, The Skeeters first proved their potential by winning
  24 of 28 games during the regular season; they then reeled off a
  string of victories in the postseason and advanced to the regional
  tournament in Waco, where they won a thrilling overtime game over
  Klein Collins High School; and
         WHEREAS, That victory brought Mesquite to the championship
  tournament in Austin, the first time the Skeeters have ever played
  in the state semifinals, and the team's final record of 29 wins and
  5 losses set a new school record for success; and
         WHEREAS, In achieving their many victories, the Skeeters
  received contributions from each member of their talented team:
  Wesley Reynolds, Vertrail Vaughns, Ryan Castaneda, Marcus Kilgore,
  Jeremy Hernandez, Thomas Nesbit, Chase Hallam, Anthony Tubbs,
  Anthony Wells, Travis Hallam, Ivan Olmedo, Nick Bechtol, and Drew
  Ondich; and
          WHEREAS, The players were schooled in the finer points of
  hardwood skill and strategy by head coach Gary Taylor and assistant
  coaches Brian Curts, Dustin Capps, P. J. Randall, and Reggie Ervin;
  and
         WHEREAS, An outstanding team that is a source of tremendous
  pride to its school and its many supporters in the community, the
  Mesquite High School Skeeters can proudly reflect on their notable
  performance and many accomplishments throughout the season; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Mesquite High School boys'
  basketball team for reaching the 5A semifinals of the UIL 2007 Boys
  Basketball State Championships and extend best wishes to the
  players and coaches for further success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
