R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Hank Bivins has been named the Mesquite Independent
  School District 2007 Volunteer of the Year at the Elementary Level
  for his years of selfless service to the students of Beasley
  Elementary School; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bivins served in the U.S. Army for 21 years
  before spending two decades as a teacher in the Dallas Independent
  School District; he retired in 1996; and
         WHEREAS, Since 1997, Hank Bivins has been a fixture at
  Beasley Elementary, where he volunteers from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every
  Tuesday and Thursday; altogether, he has given more than 4,000
  hours of assistance to the students and staff at the school; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan tutors students throughout
  the day and lends a hand in the office and the cafeteria when not
  tutoring; he works with children of all ages, and the personal
  interest he takes in them serves to foster not only their academic
  success but also their development of self-confidence and
  self-esteem; and
         WHEREAS, Through his generous sharing of his time and
  talents, Hank Bivins is helping young students to acquire a
  foundation on which they can build fulfilling and productive lives,
  and his longtime efforts in that cause are indeed worthy of
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Hank Bivins on his selection as the
  Mesquite Independent School District 2007 Volunteer of the Year at
  the Elementary Level; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Bivins as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
