R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Salvador Balcorta has earned the Lucy G. Acosta |
|
Humanitarian Award, presented by LULAC Project Amistad; and |
|
WHEREAS, A dedicated advocate for individuals in need, Mr. |
|
Balcorta has served on a number of local, state, and national |
|
advisory panels addressing the issues of communicable diseases, |
|
substance abuse, AIDS, teenage pregnancy, gang violence, border |
|
health, and social justice; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Balcorta has been appointed to the |
|
Hispanic/Latino National Substance Abuse and AIDS Planning |
|
Committee and the Governor's Advisory Committee on Immigration and |
|
Refugee Affairs; the past president of the Texas Affiliate Network, |
|
he is a member of the National Council of La Raza's executive |
|
committee, JPMorgan Chase National Community Advisory Board, and |
|
the Commission on Safety and Abuse in America's Prisons; and |
|
WHEREAS, Honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the |
|
El Paso chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, Mr. |
|
Balcorta has also earned the state award from the NASW Texas State |
|
Chapter and the 2005 Technology Hall of Fame Award from the El Paso |
|
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and |
|
WHEREAS, Salvador Balcorta has set an example of leadership |
|
and service to which all may aspire, and his efforts in behalf of |
|
his community have made a positive difference in the lives of many; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Salvador Balcorta on his receipt of |
|
a Lucy G. Acosta Humanitarian Award and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Balcorta as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
