R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Josie Villamil Tinajero has earned the Lucy G. |
|
Acosta Humanitarian Award, presented by LULAC Project Amistad; and |
|
WHEREAS, A leading scholar, educator, and advocate for issues |
|
of equality and linguistic diversity, Dr. Tinajero is the founder |
|
of the Mother-Daughter/Father-Son Program, a nationally recognized |
|
project that aims to provide education and career opportunities for |
|
Hispanic families; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Tinajero also shares her time with a number of |
|
professional organizations, serving as president of both the Texas |
|
Association for Bilingual Education and the National Association |
|
for Bilingual Education, which she has led for an unprecedented |
|
four terms; and |
|
WHEREAS, Her work has been honored by the AAUW Eleanor |
|
Roosevelt Fund, and she has received such accolades as the Texas |
|
Higher Education Star Award and the Multicultural Educator Award |
|
from the National Association for Multicultural Education; named |
|
Texas Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the |
|
Advancement of Teaching, she was recognized as one of the 20 most |
|
influential Hispanic women in the U.S. by Hispanic Business |
|
Magazine; and |
|
WHEREAS, Josie Tinajero has set an example of leadership and |
|
service to which all may aspire, and her efforts in behalf of her |
|
community have made a positive difference in the lives of many; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Josie Villamil Tinajero on her |
|
receipt of a Lucy G. Acosta Humanitarian Award and extend to her |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Tinajero as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
