R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Ross S. Sterling High School Band of Baytown |
|
|
delighted an appreciative audience with a stellar performance at |
|
|
the State Capitol on March 2, 2007; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the dedicated leadership of head band director |
|
|
Ricky Clem and assistant director of bands Zeb Moore, the Ross S. |
|
|
Sterling Band Program includes a marching band, three concert |
|
|
bands, two jazz bands, and a number of smaller ensembles; the RSS |
|
|
Band also supplies the wind and percussion players for the RSS |
|
|
Orchestra; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Regarded as one of the best band programs in the Lone |
|
|
Star State, the RSS Band participates in competitions sponsored by |
|
|
the University Interscholastic League and the Texas Music Educators |
|
|
Association; the RSS Marching Band has advanced to the 5A State |
|
|
Marching Contest three times, and the RSS Band leads Texas Music |
|
|
Region 10 bands in the number of its students who make All-Region |
|
|
Band and All-Region Jazz Band and in the receipt of solo and |
|
|
ensemble contest medals from the UIL; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The bands of the RSS program perform several |
|
|
concerts each year; the marching band adds to the excitement at the |
|
|
school's football games and band members also march every year in |
|
|
the Baytown Christmas Parade and the Highlands Parade; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These talented young musicians can take |
|
|
well-deserved pride in their achievements as members of the RSS |
|
|
Band, as well as pleasure in the knowledge and appreciation of music |
|
|
they have gained from their participation in this notable group; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the Ross S. Sterling High School Band of |
|
|
Baytown and extend to its directors and members sincere best wishes |
|
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
