R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Eighteen-year-old Beatriz Macias of Baytown has
  been named the winner of the 2007 Colonel George S. Howard Young
  Artist Competition, adding another significant milestone to her
  already celebrated musical career; and
         WHEREAS, Created to encourage and showcase young talent, this
  national competition is open to high school woodwind, brass, and
  percussion instrumentalists; a winner is selected after a rigorous
  audition process and honored with the chance to perform as a
  featured soloist with the United States Air Force Band at the DAR
  Constitution Hall; and
         WHEREAS, Playing movement three of Carl Reinecke's Concerto
  op. 283 in D Major for Flute, Ms. Macias showcased her talent at the
  prestigious venue on March 4, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, This gifted young flautist is a senior at Robert E.
  Lee High School in Baytown, where she holds the position of first
  chair in the Symphonic Band and Orchestra; trained as a musician
  since the age of four, she was appointed as principal flute of the
  Baytown Symphony Orchestra at the age of 15 and has been invited to
  play with the Houston Symphony and the Puebla Symphony as a part of
  its World Choir Festival in Mexico City; in addition, she has
  appeared as a soloist with the Baytown Symphony Orchestra, Robert
  E. Lee Band, Texas Tech University Symphony Orchestra, and Virtuosi
  of the Houston Chamber Orchestra; and
         WHEREAS, A seven-time winner of the Goose Creek CISD's
  Outstanding Young Musician award, Ms. Macias is also the drum major
  for her band, vice president for the Interact Club, and good
  sportsmanship leader for her student council; she has been
  recognized with nominations for the Congressional Youth Leadership
  Council and the United States Achievement Academy National Award;
  and
         WHEREAS, While still a teenager, Ms. Macias has accomplished
  a lifetime's worth of success; she is a source of tremendous pride
  to her family, friends, school, and community, and she may reflect
  with satisfaction on this most recent honor and look forward to a
  future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Beatriz Macias on winning the 2007
  Colonel George S. Howard Young Artist Competition and extend to her
  best wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Macias as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
