| WHEREAS, Paul Vernon Bush of Lubbock celebrated his 90th | ||
| birthday on March 29, 2007, and this occasion provides a fitting | ||
| opportunity to honor this remarkable gentleman and noted | ||
| entrepreneur; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Bush was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1917, | ||
| and though not a native Texan, came to the Lone Star State as soon as | ||
| he could; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A 1936 graduate of Lubbock High School, Mr. Bush | ||
| worked for a local motor repair shop for four years before striking | ||
| out on his own; he founded Lubbock Electric Company in 1944 and, | ||
| after serving in the U.S. Navy, devoted much of the next decade to | ||
| expanding his business; through the years, he has worked diligently | ||
| to keep up with technological advances and meet the ever-changing | ||
| needs of his customers, and today, Lubbock Electric has more than 50 | ||
| distributorships, and Mr. Bush continues to come into the office on | ||
| a daily basis; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A 50-year member of the American Business Club, Mr. | ||
| Bush served that organization as president and district governor | ||
| and helped establish new chapters, most notably the nation's | ||
| largest, in Irving; he has also served on the international board | ||
| and as international president of the Electrical Apparatus Service | ||
| Association; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Always an active member of his community, Mr. Bush | ||
| is a longtime congregant of Asbury United Methodist Church and has | ||
| served on its administrative board and chaired its Pastor Parish | ||
| Relation Committee; a former board member and president of Lubbock | ||
| Regional MHMR Center, he helped organize the Multiple Sclerosis | ||
| National Society in Lubbock, which he also served as president; in | ||
| addition, he helped found Texas Boys Ranch, a charitable venture | ||
| that benefits at-risk youth, and served on its board of directors; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Bush received the inaugural William H. Tinney | ||
| Ethics in Business Award from the Metropolitan Lubbock Rotary Club | ||
| in 1990; he has further been honored by the Texas Independent | ||
| Ginners Association as a Distinguished Industrial Associate; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A devoted family man, he enjoyed more than 60 years | ||
| with his wife, Mae, who passed away in 2001; their marriage was | ||
| blessed with many happy times and cherished memories, as well as | ||
| with three children and seven grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The celebration of a 90th birthday is a significant | ||
| milestone in the life of any individual, particularly one who has | ||
| made such vital and lasting contributions to a community, and it is | ||
| indeed a pleasure to recognize Paul Bush as he commemorates this | ||
| significant milestone; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor Paul Vernon Bush on his 90th birthday and | ||
| commend him for his many years of service to his fellow citizens; | ||
| and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. Bush as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
