R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of Christ United Methodist Church in |
|
|
Farmers Branch are observing the 50th anniversary of the church's |
|
|
founding during 2007 with special events throughout the year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The church traces its roots back to the fall of 1956, |
|
|
when a small group of area residents initiated steps to establish a |
|
|
house of worship in this rapidly growing region of Dallas County; on |
|
|
January 6, 1957, 44 people attended the church's first service, |
|
|
which was held at Valwood Elementary School, and by Easter Sunday, |
|
|
the number of charter members had grown to 135; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Reverend Bourdon Smith ably guided the church as |
|
|
its original pastor, and through the years, his legacy of inspired |
|
|
leadership has been continued by other highly regarded members of |
|
|
the clergy, including the church's current minister, Dr. Vic Casad; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The church facilities have undergone numerous |
|
|
expansions and improvements since the beginning, and today, the |
|
|
1,450 members of the congregation support an array of ministries |
|
|
and programs for residents of Farmers Branch, Carrollton, Coppell, |
|
|
Lewisville, and the greater Northwest Dallas area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For half a century, Christ United Methodist Church |
|
|
has provided steadfast spiritual and moral guidance to the |
|
|
community it serves, and its continued existence is a tribute to the |
|
|
commitment and faith of its members, both past and present; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with Christ |
|
|
United Methodist Church on the 50th anniversary of the church's |
|
|
founding and extend to them sincere best wishes for the coming |
|
|
years; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
